1969
Ulrich Heyer sees a business opportunity for aluminum boats in Venezuela’s abundant river systems. He starts the company as a side business, importing and selling STARCRAFT aluminum boats.
1983
Venezuela passes law banning import of aluminum boats, so Ulrich enters into agreement with STARCRAFT to build a few models of their boats. He opens factory space in San Cristobal and purchases machinery necessary to build the boats.

1985
Ulrich’s son, Ivor, graduates from college and joins his father’s company. Ivor’s goal is to expand the business—outside of Venezuela and beyond aluminum boats. He travels to Europe to learn how to build inflatable boats from Gianni Perego, owner of Italian boat maker Artigiana Batelli. The AB in AB Inflatables celebrates this connection and their lifelong friendship. AB factory moves from San Cristobal to the center of Venezuela in Santa Theresa.

1989
AB begins building and selling inflatable boats for the Venezuelan market, targeting its sailors to sell 200-300 boats per year.
1991
First Caribbean distributor is established in St Maarten.
1992
Relationship established with a west coast distributor in the United States.
1998
Introduce the aluminum segment.
2007
Decision made to move the factory from Venezuela to a free-trade zone in Colombia. Rent and adapt an existing factory to meet the company’s needs.
2017
The first Jet Tender is introduced—the ABJET 330.
2018
The redesigned Nautilus line is introduced.
2022
Factory space is purchased in Colombia. Space is built out from scratch to optimize for the delivery of raw materials, efficient boat building, and shipping.
2023
The first Diesel Jet Tender, the ABJET 450 Diesel, launches.
2024
The newly redesigned Alumina line is introduced.
